5 Tips For More Creativity

What comes to mind when I mention the word Creativity? Does it send chills down your spine? Does it cause a panick/anxiety attack? To you feel overwhelmed by needing to feel creative?

We know it can feel a bit overwhelming at times to think about being creative. Here are a few tips to help you add more creativity to your life.

1) Just Start.
Sometimes this can be the hardest part. You overthink it, you worry about the mess or the time it will take. You find a million reasons to put it off. Stop overthinking it. Follow the Nike slogan and "Just do it."

2) Don't be Afraid to Get Your Hands Dirty.
Yes, being creative can get a little messy. Don't worry about the mess. Get in there and get to work. Have fun, and don't worry about getting a little dirty.

3) Find Ways to Be Resourceful
Being creative can get expensive. But it doesn't have to. Use the things you have around your house. The empty cereal boxes, the leftover tissue paper, or those aluminum cans. Remember you can re-use or up-cycle your "trash" by using it in a new and creative way.

4) It Doesn't Have to be Perfect.
There is really no such thing as the perfect time, perfect place, or perfect set up. Life still happens around us. Sure, it would be nice to have a studio or a space designated for being creative. But you don't have to have that space to be creative. Use the kitchen table, the homeschool table, whatever you have. Don't find an excuse, find a way.

5) It Doesn't Have to be a Craft.
Being creative doesn't have to mean crafting. It can mean a lot of different things. Pick something that inspires or intrigues you. It could be art, painting, drawing, gardening, flower arranging, baking, candy making, photography, or photo editing. It could be writing, blogging, teaching, or entertaining. The possibilities really are endless. You can even be creative in your job!
